Wang Yi met with Cuban Foreign Minister Rodriguez

On May 27, 2026, local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met with Cuban Foreign Minister Rodríguez in New York.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s sincere greetings to Comrade Raúl Castro and President Díaz-Canel, and welcomed Rodriguez’s attendance at the high-level Security Council meeting. He noted that the meeting’s theme, “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the international system with the UN at its core,” reflects the common aspirations of all parties and has received widespread support. To achieve this goal, it is essential to uphold respect for the sovereignty and independence of all countries and oppose all forms of power politics and bullying. The Cuban people, united as one, have firmly upheld their rights, demonstrating a resolute will to oppose foreign blockade and interference, earning the respect of the international community. China will continue to uphold justice for Cuba, speak out for what is right, support the just cause of the Cuban people, and contribute to the development of Cuba’s economy and people’s livelihoods.

Rodriguez conveyed the warm greetings of General Raúl Castro and President Díaz-Canel to President Xi Jinping, thanked China for inviting Cuba to this high-level Security Council meeting, and stated that the world is currently in turmoil and disorder. Only China has the capacity to convene this meeting to build international consensus and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the global South. Cuba is facing its most severe situation since the revolution, the root cause of which is the US blockade and sanctions against Cuba. Cuba appreciates China’s firm support in safeguarding Cuba’s sovereignty and security, and for providing assistance and speaking out for Cuba during this difficult time. This fully demonstrates the special friendship between Cuba and China. Cuba will continue to support China’s just position on issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong, and is willing to maintain close strategic communication and cooperation with China to advance our respective socialist causes and uphold international fairness and justice.
