I met with Philippine President Marcos.
Since the start of the Reiwa era, President Marcos is the third state guest to be welcomed to our country, and this serves as a powerful message to not only both nations but also the international community about the close ties between Japan and the Philippines.
In 2023, during my tenure as Prime Minister, Japan and the Philippines agreed on the Official Security Assistance (OSA)
The signing of the exchange of notes related to the provision of the coastal surveillance radar system, which is Case No. 1, and the agreement to commence negotiations on the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (RAA) to facilitate cooperation between forces, among other developments, have contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations in the fields of security and economy in recent years.
Furthermore, taking into account the framework of AZEC and the “Power Asia” initiative launched at the leaders’ meeting,
We aim to strengthen the perspective of economic and energy resilience and evolve AZEC.
The Philippines is the ASEAN Chair this year.
We look forward to continuing close collaboration between our two countries and across Japan-ASEAN in a wide range of fields, as well as cooperating toward co-hosting the AZEC Summit.
