[FM MOTEGI’s visit to South Africa]

-Message from Pretoria –

I have just concluded all engagements in South Africa. Through my courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Cyril RAMAPHOSA, President of the Republic of South Africa and my meeting with Hon. Mr. Ronald LAMOLA, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, we held meaningful discussions on key bilateral issues, including the strengthening of supply chains for critical minerals and cooperation in the energy sector. We also broadly exchanged views on the international situation and confirmed our coordination in the international arena.

In the four countries I visited—Zambia, Angola, Kenya, and South Africa—we reaffirmed the achievements of our long-standing relationships of trust and cooperation. At the same time, in light of the current challenging international circumstances, we engaged in candid discussions aimed at further strengthening our partnerships, with particular attention to economic security, including the resilience of supply chains for critical minerals.

We also exchanged views on regional issues, including the situations in Iran and the Middle East, as well as the Indo-Pacific, and I explained Japan’s view and efforts. Here in Africa, I believe we have firmly demonstrated Japan’s presence as a reliable partner. I will now begin my journey back to Japan, which will take nearly a full day. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those who warmly welcomed me in each country.
