French President Emmanuel Macron says he will speak with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian later today to push Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
– “I will be speaking with the Iranian president shortly,” Macron told reporters at a press conference in Yerevan, adding that France had long advocated for “the restoration of freedom of navigation” in the vital waterway.
– France, together with the UK, has been leading efforts to establish a defensive international naval coalition to ensure freedom of navigation and secure shipping in the strait, through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil passes in peace time.
