Wang Yi met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh
On April 30, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavanh in Beijing.
Wang Yi welcomed Thongsavanh’s special trip to Beijing to attend the reception commemorating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Laos, stating that China and Laos are comrades and brothers, with a long-standing traditional friendship and close ties maintained at all levels and in all fields. China congratulated Laos on the successful convening of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, which has led the Lao Party and country into a new stage of development. China is willing to strengthen strategic communication with Laos, enhance political mutual trust, advance cooperation in areas such as the China-Laos railway construction, mineral resources, trade, and human resource development, deepen cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, jointly implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, and continuously promote the building of a strategically significant China-Laos community with a shared future towards higher standards, higher quality, and higher levels, thereby promoting Laos’s better independent development and contributing to regional and global peace and development.
Thongsavanh stated that Laos and China are like-minded partners and friends. The Lao Party and government highly value developing relations with China and appreciate China’s long-term valuable support and assistance to Laos’ economic and social development. Laos firmly adheres to the one-China principle and looks forward to taking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and China and the “Laos-China Friendship Year” as an opportunity to further deepen mutual trust, promote pragmatic cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, implement the action plan for building a Laos-China community with a shared future, and promote greater achievements in building a Laos-China community with a shared future.
