Based on the directives of the Prime Minister, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, the relevant committees continue their efforts to complete the project of placing weapons in the hands of the state.
In this regard, the Federal Government affirms that the security measures implemented in the Sinjar areas are field and military measures that are entirely subject to the authorities of the Federal Government, and have included the integration and organization of elements of the “Sinjar Protection Units” within the official Iraqi Armed Forces, and the handover of their positions in the Sinjar Mountain areas to units of the Iraqi Army and other formations of our armed forces according to tasks and jurisdictions, as this file is considered one of the exclusive duties of the government and the federal security leaderships.
The Federal Government continues, in ongoing coordination with the local government in the district, with all determination and seriousness to resolve the Sinjar issue, in addition to working on reconstruction files, compensating the families of victims, accelerating the return of the displaced to their homes and ending their harsh suffering in displacement camps, up to the election of a local government for the district in accordance with the law, which enjoys the satisfaction and approval of the people of Sinjar and represents them in their local affairs.
At a time when the government and our armed forces renew their affirmation of placing all their security and administrative capabilities at the service of the local population, they consider that empowering the Iraqi Army and other formations of our armed forces, and imposing full control, including taking over the Sinjar Mountain areas, represents the fundamental pillar for extending the authority of the state and the law and achieving sovereignty in all its aspects in the Sinjar district, with full openness to addressing challenges and issues regarding the mechanisms of placing weapons in state hands and containing security elements, in accordance with what the supreme national interest and the prevailing laws dictate.
