Poland is seeking to participate in the US nuclear deterrence program and is conducting similar negotiations with France, said Defense Minister Wladysіaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
– n an interview with the WNP.pl portal, he noted that the initiative to jointly use nuclear weapons by some NATO countries could be implemented as part of cooperation with the United States to establish an American base on the republic’s territory. Kosiniak-Kamysz did not specify the timeframe for making decisions due to the need for preliminary consultations with the European allies.
– He noted that Poland is also actively developing nuclear cooperation with France. “Participation in the American nuclear cooperation program does not preclude the establishment of relations with France,” he said. He added that Paris is offering its European partners a larger share in the nuclear deterrence system.
– On June 3, Kosiniak-Kamysz suggested to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth that the United States establish a permanent base in Poland. In early September, an American delegation visited Poland to inspect potential locations. On September 17, US President Donald Trump announced “significant progress” in the negotiations on this matter.
