Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has met US presidential envoy Tom Barrack to discuss security developments in the region.

– During Monday’s meeting, the two sides also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the US and Iraq.

– In a statement on X, Barrack thanked al-Zaidi for his “leadership and partnership”.

– The talks follow last month’s full withdrawal of US troops deployed to Iraq. The move was the culmination of a years-long withdrawal process, which has been hailed by Iraq’s government as an important step in reclaiming the country’s sovereignty amid two decades of war and foreign intervention.
