I met with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the occasion of his two-day State Visit to Malaysia at the invitation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.
This meeting opened up opportunities for us to refine our efforts to strengthen the strategic Malaysia-Jordan relationship, particularly in the areas of higher education, development of highly skilled human capital, new technologies, and the building of a semiconductor ecosystem. We also discussed the potential for collaboration in developing advanced technology education and training centers, including producing more engineers and skilled workers capable of meeting the demands of future industries.
Also discussed were efforts to expand trade and investment relations, including the potential for a free trade agreement (FTA), tariff restructuring, strengthening supply chains, and cooperation in the energy, transportation, halal industry, and tourism sectors.
In discussing geopolitical developments in West Asia, we were in full agreement on the urgent need to stop the atrocities against the Palestinian people, including the ongoing violence and violations of rights in Al-Quds and the West Bank. We also exchanged views on developments in Syria and their implications for the security and stability of the region.
I reaffirmed that Malaysia will continue to consistently champion the rights of the Palestinian people, while strengthening the delivery of humanitarian aid, especially to the residents of Gaza.
King Abdullah II also expressed his appreciation for Malaysia’s stance and role in advocating for the cause of the Palestinian people.
May this meeting serve as a platform to elevate the Malaysia-Jordan relationship to a more meaningful level, not only through economic and technological cooperation, but also on the foundations of humanitarianism, peace, and global justice.
