The UN says Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is travelling to Islamabad, where he’s expected to discuss Pakistan’s “diplomatic and mediation efforts” between Ian and the US.
– Guterres is scheduled to arrive in the capital on Tuesday to meet senior government officials, including Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, his spokesman said in a statement.
– The visit will “be an opportunity” to discuss Islamabad’s “constructive role in supporting negotiations between the two countries”, the statement added.
– Guterres’ last visit to Pakistan was in 2022 amid devastating floods.
