Romania’s experience and diplomatic history have led other countries to entrust us with confidence this year with the mandate to exercise the Presidency of the Executive Board of the most important UN development agencies for 2026 —UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS, in a decisive year for the future of multilateralism, following our active involvement in the UN80 Agenda.
At the end of the UN General Assembly, I met with the Executive Director Alexander De Croo to discuss
- ongoing development projects
- the assessment of their impact and the necessary reforms for more efficient resource allocation and avoiding overlaps.
- emergency interventions and preparation for a post-conflict reconstruction and stabilization process.
Romania has experts and organizations that can also contribute to many of these projects.
This major mandate positions Romania as a trusted mediator in shaping global sustainable development policies, crisis management, and the implementation of necessary institutional reforms in the United Nations system.
Romania’s voice is necessary and heard, and our commitment to a safer and more equitable world is reconfirmed day by day through concrete actions in New York! 🇷🇴
