There had been a lot of discussion going on between the US and Iran through intermediaries on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. And at one stage, President Trump said that these negotiations were going well.
– But now he said that he’s rejected the Iranian proposal that emerged out of those negotiations.
– The president says that he’s not interested in what the Iranians suggest. He says that they’re only trying to make this deal because they are suffering because of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which he continues to insist is causing massive economic pain.
– He claims as well that some 20 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the course of the last 24 hours, insisting that oil is still flowing there despite the evidence of experts to the contrary.
– He is now saying no; he’s rejected the Iranian plan. But he has given nothing to put in its place. And some media sources are reporting that Trump’s aides are saying that he’s considering starting a new bombing campaign after the midterms.
– This may be something that has happened before – an idea being floated in public to kind of gauge the public reaction. Public reaction is likely to be seen when the voters go to the polls in those midterm elections.
