The Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, received in New York yesterday, Monday, Baghdad time, the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. Marco Rubio, and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of His Excellency’s participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly in its eighty-first session.
His Excellency affirmed that the government is working to consolidate Iraqi-American relations and elevate the level of strategic partnership between the two countries within a framework of constructive economic cooperation that expands areas of joint work and enhances mutual interests.
The Prime Minister reiterated his confirmation of the government’s determination to complete the sovereign entitlements and proceed with measures to confine arms to the hands of the state in accordance with constitutional and legal constants.
For his part, Mr. Rubio expressed his country’s support for Iraq, government and people alike, in enshrining internal stability and its sustainability, and achieving the aspirations of Iraqis in developing their economy and enhancing their openness to the world, alongside support for the government’s steps and decisions aimed at completing the state’s components and strengthening the foundations of stability and economic development.
