Pakistan’s army said the trilateral Mecca defence pact between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan is intended for “collective deterrence,” and has no “regional aspirations.”
– “This mutual defence agreement is complementary in nature. It is not competing with any other relationship of these countries,” Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in an interview with Saudi broadcaster Al Arabiya, adding that the three allies have independent relationships with other nations, blocs and alliances.
– To a question on whether the defence agreement would become part of the wider, Muslim-world security architecture, Chaudhry said that there was nothing in the pact that stated that it was a Muslim alliance, adding that it was an alliance for regional stability.
