OIC and UNICEF Discuss Strengthening Strategic Partnership and Intensifying Humanitarian Coordination

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, held a virtual meeting with the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Ms. Hannan Suleiman.
The meeting aimed to explore prospects for joint cooperation, strengthen the strategic partnership, and expand areas of humanitarian and development collaboration between the two sides.
Discussions focused on establishing a formal legal framework for the partnership and on prioritizing humanitarian issues – specifically child protection, water provision, and support for education – in crisis-affected areas within OIC member states.
Both parties emphasized the importance of mobilizing international support to assist those affected by these crises and discussed ways to enhance coordination on humanitarian aid and institutional capacity-building.
The two sides agreed to establish a specific timeline for finalizing the strategic partnership agreement, thereby strengthening field responses to humanitarian needs in affected member states.
Also attending from UNICEF were Ms. Lana Al-Wreikat, UNICEF Representative for the Gulf Area, and Ms. Rania Mohamed, Advisor at the UNICEF Office in Riyadh.
