Slovenia is once again a credible NATO member. After being the only member last year that failed to meet its commitments, we will, with the budget rebalancing adopted last week, allocate more than 2% of GDP to defense for the first time.
This isn’t about increasing funds just to make someone happy, but to strengthen our defense capabilities. We must enhance them so that Slovenia is able to defend its sovereignty and participate in the alliance. Defense within the alliance framework is, especially for countries like Slovenia, substantially cheaper and more effective than if each country had to provide it on its own.
