UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed alarm over escalating Israeli military attacks in southern Lebanon, condemning the “mounting civilian casualties, including women and children”, according to a statement.
– Guterres said he was particularly concerned by reports of Israeli strikes affecting hospitals, healthcare workers and public institutions, as well as restrictions on humanitarian access.
– “Civilians and civilian objects must be protected at all times, and attacks directed against them are unacceptable,” he said.
– The UN chief called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged Israel to withdraw its forces from Lebanese territory.
